More than Just a Meal - Angie B.
For as long as Chris White has been working for Great Lakes Subaru he has been partnering with WCCOA for the Subaru/MOWA Share the Love Event. This event helps to raise awareness of the importance of these hot nutritious meals, and daily well check that WCCOA provides daily to older adults throughout Wood County. Chris is familiar with the North Baltimore community and the services WCCOA provides to these individuals. Because of our partnership with Great Lakes Subaru WCCOA receives revenue from the Subaru Share the Love Event. Thank you to Chris and Great Lakes Subaru for our continued partnership to ensure older adults throughout Wood County remain independent and active in their own homes.
Special needs graduate wins Cedar Point tickets - Christine S.
In the spring I saw there was a contest for those graduating high school. I submitted my daughter’s photo in her cap and gown. She was graduating from the Seneca County Opportunity Center. She ended up winning 4 tickets to Cedar Point including drink passes and parking. She loves Cedar Point and really enjoyed spending the day riding rides with her brothers and I. She is non verbal, but if I had to guess I’d say her favorite ride is the bumper cars which we rode many times that day. We had a lot of fun and were very thankful for the opportunity.
Meeting Needs, Inspiring Smiles: Subaru’s Impact on Chamberlin Hill - Melissa Z.
This season, our school was truly blessed by the generosity of Great Lakes Subaru. Their team donated essential items—including socks, shoes, and belts—along with fun and engaging toys such as squishy fidgets and Legos to support students in need within our building. These donations go far beyond meeting basic needs. A pair of shoes that fits just right, warm socks for the winter, or a belt that helps a student feel confident and comfortable can make an immediate difference in a child’s day. The toys and fidgets will provide positive outlets for creativity, focus, and emotional regulation, small items that have a big impact on the way students learn and feel at school. We are incredibly grateful for Great Lakes Subaru’s kindness and commitment to our community. Their support helps ensure that our students feel cared for, prepared, and ready to learn every day. Partnerships like this remind us what a powerful difference we can make when we come together for kids. Thank you, Great Lakes Subaru, for sharing the love with our school!
Great Lakes Subaru Teams Up to Support Local Community - Shellee B.
Imagine going without a coat, shoes, or even socks. For millions of children and adults experiencing homelessness and other urgent need situations across the country, even here in Findlay, this is a harsh reality. Helping others strengthens communities, which is why Great Lakes Subaru is partnering with Operation Warm®, a national nonprofit focused on connecting children with the resources they need to thrive. Through this partnership and other Subaru Loves to Help® efforts, Subaru and retailers like Great Lakes Subaru have helped nearly 900,000 children and adults in urgent need. On 01/27/2025, Great Lakes Subaru donated 204 coats and 204 shoes/socks to HHWP CAC Head Start. These essential items not only help keep children protected, warm, and dry, it can have a significant impact on a child's mental and emotional well-being.
Building Connections - Stacy S.
On behalf of the Children's Mentoring Connection of Hancock County, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Great Lakes Subaru for your generous financial support of our youth mentoring programs. Your contribution is making a direct and lasting impact on the lives of children in our community. Because of your support, we are able to continue creating meaningful connections—like the one between Saul and his mentor, Kim. Saul has been matched with Kim for the past eight years. Throughout their journey, Kim, alongside her husband Mark, provided Saul with a steady source of encouragement, guidance, and fun. They attended many of CMC’s group events, shared simple joys like going out for pizza and bowling, fishing and spent time talking about school, life goals, and personal challenges. Tragically, Mark passed away in 2020, but his memory and influence remain a strong part of Saul’s mentoring experience. Kim continued the match with unwavering dedication, helping Saul navigate his teenage years with confidence and purpose. Today, we are proud to share that Saul will be graduating from high school and continuing on to attend university—an incredible milestone that speaks to the power of mentoring. Your support helps make stories like Saul’s possible. Thank you, Great Lakes Subaru, for believing in our mission to positively impact lives one meaningful connection at a time. Your partnership ensures that more children like Saul have the opportunity to grow, thrive, and succeed. With gratitude,
Spreading Community Spirit Through Art - Emily S.
This year, Great Lakes initiated a contest for students at Awakening Minds Art to submit artwork with the theme of 'Traveling through Life with Art.' This idea was so thoughtful and such a wonderful way to collaborate between a local business and nonprofit while engaging the community as a whole! The winner of the contest received a tshirt with their design printed on it and a Visa giftcard. The participants had fun, and the winner was very appreciative and proud!
Sweet Success: Community Collaboration Fuels Back-to-School Support at Chamberlin Hill - Melissa Z.
In August, Chamberlin Hill Intermediate School was fortunate to partner with Great Lakes Subaru and Archie's Drive-In in a heartwarming community effort to support students and teachers. Through the creation of the Great Lakes Subaru Milkshake Flavor of the Month, the "Cruisin' Cookies n Cream," each order resulted in a donation to purchase essential school supplies for Findlay City Schools. This generous collaboration culminated in the delivery of boxes filled with supplies to our staff, providing much-needed resources for our students and teachers. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of Great Lakes Subaru and Archie's, this initiative not only equipped students for success but also raised awareness in the community about the importance of supporting those in need during the back-to-school season. The donation has made a lasting impact on our school, helping ensure a positive and well-prepared start to the school year for everyone.
Art for a Cause - Melissa Z.
Chamberlin Hill Intermediate School was honored to synergize with Great Lakes Subaru and Teddy’s Rescue for a truly impactful service learning initiative. This partnership provided our students with a unique opportunity to make a difference in our community by allowing students to use their artistic talents to support a great cause. With the guidance of our art teacher, Chamberlin Hill’s young artists created beautiful pieces of artwork featuring animals from Teddy’s Rescue, each one hoping to find their forever home. The artwork was proudly displayed by Great Lakes Subaru, where the community came together to admire the students' creations and be introduced to cats and dogs awaiting adoption. Thanks to the support of everyone involved, we were able to raise awareness for these loving animals in need of homes. We are incredibly happy to have been invited to work together on this project to make a lasting impact and give these pets the loving homes they deserve. We are grateful for the positive impact it had on both our students and the community and hope the event inspired many to consider adopting or to spread the word about the wonderful animals available for adoption through Teddy’s Rescue.
Subaru and Teddy's Love Their Pets Dogtoberfest - Gayle M.
In October, Great Lakes Subaru partnered with Teddy’s Rescue in putting together our Dogtoberfest, a very successful fundraiser and adoption event. Great Lakes coordinated a partnership with Chamberlin Hill Intermediate School’s art teacher to allow students to create art featuring adoptable pets from Teddy’s. The students designed amazing art work that were displayed at the shelter during our event, the dealership and on social media. Great Lakes Subaru also sponsored the scavenger hunt for dogs (and owners) at the event. They provided treats for dogs at each point in the hunt, designed artwork and provided prized for the participants. Dogs and owners who participated had lots of fun doing this. With the aid of Great Lakes Subaru’s additional promotion of the dogs and cats during the event and during the month of October on social media we adopted 2 dogs who had been waiting to find their forever home for well over 1 year. We are extremely grateful for the support of the Great Lakes Subaru and their employees for the continued support of Teddy’s Rescue.
Operation Warm - Alyssa R.
Operation Warm partnered with Great Lakes Subaru to provide brand new winter coats for all HHWP CAC Head Start Preschool Students. The event was well received and just in time for the snowfall that blanketed the area that night. Great Lakes Subaru employees Chris, Cathy, and Arizona delivered over 300 winter coats and worked alongside HHWP CAC Head Start Preschool Staff to get the event site set up for distribution. The Great Lakes Team welcomed each student with a smile and helped them pick out a coat in their favorite color, making sure to let each student know the brand-new coat was made just for them. One little guy said this was the comfiest coat he has ever had! Just before Christmas, Head Start received a large donation of hats and gloves from a local family. The family decided to forgo a family gift exchange and donate to those in need instead. That donation was a perfect pairing for Operation Warm event. Kids received coats, hats, gloves, an after-school snack and had the opportunity to stop by the temporary tattoo station, which was also a hit. We are grateful to be the recipient of such a wonderful event and extend a big thank you to Great Lakes Subaru for their support and sponsorship. As you can see in the photos, those smiles say it all!
Teddy's Rescue and Subaru Love Their Pets - Gayle M.
Teddy's Rescue had a busy month during October - Subaru Loves Pets month. With the support of Subaru and Great Lakes Subaru we held our annual Dogtoberfest, an adoption and fundraiser. There was a photo shoot at the dealership allowing families to have pictures with their pets in front of a beautiful fall scenery. And we can’t forget the wonderful pictures with Santa Claus when he came to visit the rescue. All this happened with the support of those at Subaru. Teddy’s also found forever families for so many deserving dogs and cats during these events. A few that come to mind are Tiger and Twilight, 3-year-old tiger cats. These two had been at the rescue since they were kittens and found a new home where they are thriving. A pair of Chihuahuas, Koda and Annie who came to Teddy's together. Both found a new home with a loving family and are living the good life. And Zada’s’ new family who stopped in when passing through town and noticed our adoption event. They fell in love with this special girl and made multiple trips back to town to adopt her. She is now living the wonderful, carefree life she deserves. Great Lakes Subaru and their employees provide support all year long, giving us the opportunity tell our story and find these animals homes. We at Teddy’s Rescue believe as Subaru that all pets deserve a loving home and we are so grateful for their support of our mission.
Great Lakes Subaru Rocks with Veterans - Ed N.
Renee from Great Lakes Subaru reached out to our office. She expressed a desire to make a significant contribution to our local veterans, and one particular organization piqued her interest – Guitars for Vets (G4V). After delving into the working of this national organization and its local chapter, a meaningful partnership was formed. The Findlay G4V Band surprised Great Lakes Subaru by bringing the gift of live music to their showroom. A generous donation of $2,500 was made by the dealership to Guitar Ranch downtown. This will allow ten G4V graduates to visit the store, test various guitars, and select the one that truly resonates with them as their graduation gift. We deeply appreciate Great Lakes Subaru for their thoughtful and bountiful contribution, which is set to substantially enhance the lives of our local veterans. Guitars for Vets is a national program that pairs veterans with local guitar instructors for ten free lessons on a loaner guitar. Upon completion of these lessons, each veteran graduates from the program and receives a brand-new guitar, complete with a case, tuner, extra strings, guitar stand and lesson book. The Findlay chapter of G4V also hosts two monthly jam sessions on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month at the Disabled American Veterans post. All veterans with a guitar are welcome to join. For more information, please contact the Hancock County Veterans Service Office. Thank you again, Great Lakes Subaru, for your generosity and for making a real difference in the lives of our veterans!
Community Collaboration - Emily S.
Great Lakes approached us last year with some ideas and a whole lot of enthusiasm for being involved in our organization and community. The outcome was 2 projects that spanned several community events and included many children and adults. First, Great Lakes commissioned a large collaborative painting, painted by students at one of our community classes. Someone from the business came out to film the project, and the video contributed to Findlay's Balloonfest. Next, that painting went up for auction at Awakening Minds' annual Art Auction where it showcased not only our community programming, but an awesome example of collaboration and community partnership! Later in the summer, Great Lakes purchased tickets to MCPA Youtheatre's SpongeBob The Musical and gifted them to Awakening Minds Art. We gave them to some of our families, and they were able to attend for free. It was a great time and was very appreciated by those families! As an arts organization, we really appreciated the cross-organizational support that this project had. Thank you, Great Lakes Subaru! Both projects were so thoughtful and heartfelt. Your generosity showed care for our organization, but even more so, showed your care and support for the community as a whole.
Great Lakes - Loves Learning with Chamberlin Hill - Misty S.
Chamberlin Hill would like to express our deepest gratitude for helping our building create a sensory room for our students. The Great Lakes Subaru team exceeded our expectations when we were asked what we would need to support this journey and provided each and every supply and resource we requested. In our sensory room, we have a fiber optic light curtain, a bubble "waterfall" for the wall, a water tower, blackout tent, sensory tiles, and more to assist our students in multiple ways. This room allows for students to engage in opportunities to meet sensory needs, and it also gives us the space to allow for students to have moments to regroup and recharge so that the student is ready to optimally learn. The room was created to be a proactive measure to support all students so that the best learning can happen within our building. Without the generosity from Great Lakes Subaru, this project would still be in the beginning stages. However, because of their help, this room has already been able to be used, even though we'd like to continue to add to it so that it is even more inclusive for all students. We are sincerely grateful for this opportunity from Great Lakes Subaru. They have shown their tremendous support for education and Chamberlin Hill with this room. Additionally, they showed our teachers some amazing love as well as they sent office supplies, snacks and K-Cups, and paper supplies for our teachers' lounge to get our school year off to a wonderful start. Thank you, Great Lakes Subaru, for helping Chamberlin Hill!
Great Lakes Subaru Helps the Homeless - Jean L.
The City Mission of Findlay is an emergency shelter that provides safe, warm shelter, hot meals, and hope for those who find themselves homeless in the Hancock County area. Great Lakes Subaru wanted to help, and they rose to the occasion! The mission provides clean bedding to new guests coming into the shelter so they can rest, shower and regroup as they make decisions for their next step out of homelessness. The Employees of Great Lakes Subaru put together hygiene kits with full size shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes, and other much needed items for the guests to be given with the bedding. And it was all packed in a backpack. These packs provide cleanliness and dignity to those seeking shelter. The City Mission is grateful to the people of Great Lakes Subaru for this special project. It shows they care about their community and are willing to share their resources to improve the lives of those less fortunate. Thank you, Great Lakes Subaru!
Delivering Hot Meals and Holiday Cheer - Angie B.
Again this Holiday season Great Lakes Subaru (formerly LaRiche) partnered with Wood County Committee on Aging, Inc. (WCCOA) to help spread Holiday Cheer. During the Subaru Share the Love Event for the past 10 years the Findlay Subaru dealership has been gracious enough to join forces with WCCOA to deliver meals in the Subaru/Meals on Wheels Share the Love Event. This event helps to increase awareness of the much needed programs and services WCCOA has to offer. The dealership provides a Subaru and “chauffeur” to our regular home delivered meal volunteer in the North Baltimore Area. They deliver the hot, nutritious daily meal to the frail, home bound older adults throughout the North Baltimore Area during the annual Holiday Luncheon. This year, on December 9th, Chris White and Ivanna Klek assisted in delivering these meals. With this partnership WCCOA is eligible to receive “shares” through the Subaru/MOWA Share the Love Event grant. This grant provides WCCOA with additional funding for the much needed programs and services they offer. In addition, this annual event has created lasting memories; with a strong partnership and continued support. Thanks again to Great Lakes Subaru and their staff for their continued collaboration with this annual event.
Children's Mentoring Connection - Stacy S.
Children's Mentoring Connection is a Youth Mentoring program that provides mentors to children ages 6 - 14 through school and community-based programs. Mentoring services are offered at no cost to the families and children we serve. Funding for our program is primarily through two signature fundraising events and grants. 13 years ago, we developed a partnership with our local Subaru dealership, LaRiche Toyota and Bob LaRiche. This partnership has allowed us to host our signature Uncorked and Unplugged Fundraiser on the dealership's site. This past year there was a change in the dealer ownership and Great Lakes Subaru, and owner Joey Huang did not miss a beat and stepped right in to continue this critical fundraiser for our event. With the support of Joey Huang and his team, we raised over $70,000 to support the children of Hancock County. The last two years have been very challenging for children, especially those living with single parents and grandparents, and this support is key to continuing programming. Joey and his team graciously turned over his dealership, allowing us to transform it into a gathering place for fine dining and private selections of wine to be served to our guests. We prepared to welcome our guests dressed for the special evening in only three hours. Community partnerships are essential in the success of our program and could not be possible without such support. Children's Mentoring Connection is thrilled Joey has agreed to continue to host our event for years to come, and we can't wait to begin to plan for 2022. I have included a few pictures to see how the auto service area can be turned into an event space.
A Home for Pixie - Gayle M.
Puppies are not always the easiest dogs to place in a home. In many cases, people see their cute little faces and do not realize the extra time and effort they need. Pixie, a Beagle pup, came to be at the rescue because this. As with most Beagles, Pixie was gentle, sweet, and funny. She made us laugh, but that's when she was not making us run in circles because she was very curious and active and getting into everything. Everything around her was new and she considered all things her toys. Pixie just needed a special family willing to spend the time with her to teach her what to do and not to do. With the help of Subaru Love Pets Adoption and Great Lakes Subaru of Findlay we were able to share Pixie’s story and find her the perfect home. She now has a family that is teaching her how to be the best dog she can be. She even has a Beagle sibling she can play and who can show her the ropes. Adopting any dog has special rewards and brings joy as you turn life around for that animal. We were all so excited this has happened for Pixie!
Did Great Lakes Subaru go above and beyond, provide exceptional service, or support causes that are important to you? We'd love to hear about it.
